The DomGas Alliance welcomes the findings and key recommendations of the Economics and Industry Standing Committee's final report, released today.
The Committee's recommendations reflect the critical importance of safeguarding domestic gas supplies to meet the energy needs of Western Australian households, businesses, and industries, and to underpin our decarbonisation strategy.
These recommendations echo the Alliance’s position that the State’s energy security is paramount in supporting our economy.
Richard Harris, spokesperson for the DomGas Alliance, stated, "We are pleased to see that the Committee has acknowledged the importance of securing a secure and affordable domestic gas supply in Western Australia.”
“The key recommendations align with our ongoing efforts to ensure that the domestic gas reservation policy is reformed and modernised to reflect the intent to deliver 15% of all LNG exports into the domestic market.”
“We also welcome the Committee’s recommendation to broaden the gas reservation policy to make the WA gas market more transparent and responsive, as well as tightening up the management of retention leases for offshore and onshore gas fields.
The DomGas Alliance remains opposed to any consideration of allowing onshore gas exports for the foreseeable future, given the forecast domestic gas shortfalls predicted for this decade and well into the next.
"Allowing onshore gas exports at this time would undermine our domestic energy security," Harris added.
The DomGas Alliance is committed to working closely with the government and industry stakeholders to implement the Committee's key recommendations to reform the policy in order to protect the long-term energy security of Western Australia.
